Songun politics is the main political mode of the DPRK.
The politics is based on the Juche idea authored by President Kim Il Sung and developed by General Kim Jong Il.
Kim Il Sung, who embarked on the road of revolutionary struggle to save the destiny of his country and people in his early years, consistently maintained the principle of giving foremost precedence to the military affairs in the whole course of the revolution and construction, holding fast to the principle for nearly 70 years from the mid-1920s.
General Kim Jong Il started his Songun-based revolutionary leadership on August 25, Juche 49 (1960) and administered Songun politics from the late 1960s, true to the intention of President Kim Il Sung.
Based on a scientific analysis of the changes in the political arena of the world and the difficulties facing the DPRK in the closing years of the last century, he formulated Songun politics as the main political mode of socialism and applied it in an all-round way. Songun politics is a unique political mode of socialism Kim Jong Il put forth for the first time in history by embodying the philosophy of arms that the revolution is pioneered, advanced and brought to completion by means of arms and the Songun revolutionary principle that the army is precisely the Party, the state and the people.
The objective of Songun politics is to proactively cope with the aggressive manoeuvres of foreign forces by strengthening the country’s military power and to build a thriving socialist nation by consolidating the motive force of the revolution and promoting the overall socialist construction with the army as the core and driving force.
