Historic October 4 Declaration
October 4 this year marks the 7th anniversary of the historic October 4 Declaration.
President Kim Il Sung set forth the Three Principles of National Reunification through the July 4 Joint Statement in 1972 and advanced a proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo in October, 1980.
Chairman Kim Jong Il formulated the proposals for reunification set forth by the President as three charters for national reunification and worked heart and soul for the reunification of the country.
The June 15 Joint Declaration and the October 4 Declaration were made public thanks to his boundless love for the nation, broad magnanimity and great and courageous determination.
The October 4 Declaration, the program for implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration, was adopted to open the brighter prospect for Korea’s reunification.
The declaration evoked unanimous support and welcome from all the Koreans as soon as it was published, and it serves as a banner encouraging the nationwide general advance for reunification.
The October 4 declaration clarifies a package of the issues to be solved by the north and south for boosting cooperation and exchange in various fields. The declaration indicates specific ways for developing the inter-Korean relations and achieving peace on the Korean Peninsula and the prosperity common to the nation by the concerted efforts of the nation.
Absolute respect for the June 15 Joint Declaration and the October 4 Declaration and their implementation are the only way for saving the present inter-Korean relations from a crisis.
The present south Korean ruling forces have sidestepped the issue of respecting and implementing the north-south declarations on every opportunity since they came to power.
The confrontation racket kicked up by the conservative forces, abusing the hard-won dialogue between the north and the south for the confrontation with compatriots, amounts to a categorical denial and wanton violation of the June 15 Joint Declaration and the October 4 Declaration.
If the north-south declarations are honestly implemented, the north and the south will be able to eradicate all the leftovers of the era of confrontation as desired by the era and compatriots, turn the inter-Korean relations into those of reconciliation, trust, unity and cooperation and create a new national history of independent reunification, peace and prosperity.
Kim Jong Un, supreme leader of the DPRK, has wisely led the Korean people to accomplish the cause of national reunification true to the behests of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il.
He clarified that he would join hands with anyone who truly wants the reunification of the country and the peace and prosperity of the nation, when referring to the issue of the inter-Korean relations.
