Kim Jong Il, eternal general secretary of the WPK and
eternal chairman of the National Defense Commission of the DPRK
Eternal Banner
Kim Jong Il made public on March 31, Juche 71 (1982), his treatise, On the Juche Idea, thus crystallizing the Juche idea authored by President Kim Il Sung.
Kim Jong Il’s treatise was published in booklet of some 80 pages. However, its contents are profound and colossal.
In the closing years of the last century the US-led imperialist allied forces, saying about the “end of socialism” and availing themselves of the collapse of socialist systems in former USSR and other countries, directed the spearhead of their attack against DPRK that was holding fast to the banner of socialism. In their offensives unprecedented in history were employed political and military pressures, economic sanctions and even attempts at undermining the socialist system.
The imperialists, however, failed to fulfill their purpose, for they were too ignorant of the fact that the DPRK is an independent country, doing everything as required by the Juche idea, that is, putting on top the interests of the revolution and people and the country, and solving all problems in conformity to its reality and on its own efforts. The DPRK is the country that holds independence as dear as life. Though it is small in territory and population, it has never wavered nor hesitated in the face of trials and challenges tremendous enough for others to be frustrated. It has defended socialism with credit and further made a leap toward a powerful and prosperous nation. The imperialists had nothing but be astounded to witness it.
The work gives a full-scale account of human history and a summing-up of ideological heritage of mankind, defines the main trend of times, shows the correct path of shaping human destiny, establishes the scientific outlook on life, and clarifies the revolutionary political mode. In this way, it embodies in full the past and the future, basic principles governing the human life, and the guiding principles of all domains of the society, such as ideology, politics, military and economic affairs, culture and so on.
The treatise is composed of five systems; the origin of the Juche idea, the philosophical principle, the socio-historical principles, the guiding principles and the historic significance of the idea.
No sooner had the treatise been published than it met a great response. In less than a year since its publication, it was carried in over ten million copies of publications in more than 90 countries and was printed in book form in 144 countries.
Prominent figures of the world spoke highly of his treatise as “a new Communist Manifesto in the 80s of the 20thcentury”, “the original philosophy textbook that gives a definite solution for human emancipation for the first time,” and so on.
As one French professor put it: “Once Lenin praised the Communist Manifesto by Marx and Engels as the song of songs about communism. And, after his device of expression, the work of His Excellency Kim Jong Il, On the Juche Idea, is the song of songs about the genuine cause of mankind, about the dignity and worth of a human being, and about the lofty ideal and infinite prosperity of mankind.”
Kim Jong Il’s work, On the Juche Idea, is a guiding principle not only the Korean people but also those aspiring after independence throughout the world should adhere to without fail.
