A spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the DPRK gave the following answer to a question put by KCNA on February 3 as regards recent developments in Venezuela:
An abnormal situation developed in Venezuela where the speaker of the parliament declared void the result of the presidential election held in May last year and claimed himself as the provisional president on January 23.
The situation in Venezuela is developing into a complicated international issue, as evidenced by the convening of the UN Security Council emergency meeting on the Venezuelan issue on January 26.
Any attempt by outside forces to remove a president legitimately elected according to the constitution of a sovereign state is an undisguised interference in its internal affairs and a wanton violation of international law.
It is our firm stand that the Venezuelan issue should be resolved in a peaceful way in accordance with the independent will and decision of the government and people of Venezuela.
Peoples of the whole world aspiring to justice and peace will always stand by the government and people of Venezuela for safeguarding their sovereignty and stability.
