The Permanent Mission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to the United Nations issued the following press statement with regard to the forced adoption of the anti-DPRK “draft resolution on human rights” submitted by the European Union and Japan at the Third Committee of the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly on November 15, 2018:
The Permanent Mission of the DPRK to the UN resolutely and totally rejects the anti-DPRK “resolution” (A/C.3/73/L.40) which was adopted forcibly at the Third Committee of the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The “resolution” has nothing to do with genuine human rights, as it is a product of political plot of hostile forces that try to disgrace the image of the DPRK and overthrow its social system.
“Human rights issue” mentioned in the “resolution” has never existed and cannot be allowed to exist in my country where we value most the dignity and independent rights of human being.
All materials contained in the “resolution” are nothing but the most despicable false words fabricated by a handful of “defectors” who escaped after committing crimes to sustain their dirty lives and, therefore, we do not feel any need to make even a word on it.
My delegation expresses deep concern and surprise at the fact that EU and Japan instigate confrontation by tabling a “draft resolution” which is full of political criticisms and fabrication, at the time when the atmosphere of reconciliation and cooperation is prevailing on the Korean peninsula and efforts are being made for establishing a permanent and durable peace mechanism in the Korean peninsula.
The main sponsors of the “draft resolution”, EU and Japan, are neither qualified nor in a position to talk about other’s human rights issues.
In those countries of the EU, such grave crimes against humanity as Islamophobia, xenophobia, extreme racial discrimination and ill-treatment, worst-ever refugee crisis and neo-Nazism continue to be perpetrated.
Japan, in particular, is the criminal state which militarily occupied Korea in the past century and committed A-class crimes against humanity such as the massacre of one million Koreans, 8.4 million forced drafting and 200 000 sexual slavery for the Japanese army.
But it has not yet implemented at all the recommendations of the UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women, Ms. Radhika Coomaraswamy, who officially made in 1996 to the Japanese government for acknowledgement of the Japanese military sexual slavery crime, official apology and compensation to the victims, full disclosure of relevant documents and materials, setup of a special administrative tribunal and punishment of those perpetrators.
Japan must implement these recommendations of the UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women at the first, before talking about other’s human rights issues.
The United Nations should, first of all, take issue with the crimes of human rights violation of these countries strictly and punish the perpetrators completely.
Today, in our country all the people are enjoying genuine freedom and rights to their heart’s content, thanks to the politics of attaching importance to, respecting and loving the people unfolded by Chairman Kim Jong Un of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK.
We take great pride and confidence in our style socialism and the system of providing true human rights chosen with conviction and consolidated and developed by ourselves.
The DPRK remains in consistent position to attach importance to dialogue and cooperation for promotion and protection of human rights in the international arena, but it will strongly respond to the end to confrontation and pressure of the hostile forces aimed at defaming its dignity and overthrowing its system by fabricating non-existing “human rights issues”, and will continue to defend our style socialist system centred on the popular masses.
